Our Mission

Zalkin Revell was established for the purpose of helping people who are experiencing unmanageable financial distress. The nationwide economic conditions which we are experiencing today has brought financial hardship upon middle class families, the likes of which most of us have never seen.

Today -- good, decent and hardworking American families who have spent their lives playing by the rules, have seen the rug pulled from beneath them and in many instances -- the roof taken from over their heads. For these families, the American Dream has become a nightmare. This law firm was founded for them and the businesses they operate.

Doing the Right Thing . . .

You have tried to do the right thing, but an initial debt crisis is often precipitated by an unanticipated event -- the loss of a job, unexpected medical bills, a sudden unexpected downturn in the economy, the loss of a tenant for rental property, an adjustable rate mortgage adjusting even higher, credit card companies increasing their already outrageous interest rates, and the list goes on.

The problem is that this initial event often creates a downward and uncontrollable financial spiral. Once a payment is missed, there is a domino effect of late charges, interest rate hikes, foreclosures, and diminishment in available credit making the problem far worse.

As if this wasn't enough, these missed payments send your debts into "collections" whereby creditors begin to relentlessly call you day and night. And what can you tell them? You have no way to pay them, but the calls go on and on. Many people resort to an unlisted phone number or even having their phone service turned off to avoid the relentless harassing calls.

Late payment on a mortgage can also trigger foreclosure proceedings where now, in additional to all the above stress, you have to deal with the prospect of losing your family's home.

How can we help? First, we have the courage to tell it like it is. If there is a solution that does not require filing a bankruptcy or other legal proceeding, we will tell you. We are not a "mill." We are not interested in a volume practice. What we are interested in, is providing honest advice and assistance to people like you who want to do the right thing.

In many cases, however, it is the honest people -- the ones who want to do the right thing -- who delay assistance until much damage has been done to their finances, peace of mind, credit report -- and even to their health, marriage, and family.

A timely Chapter 13 reorganization petition, for example, can allow you to reorganize your finances so as to pay your creditors back as much as you can in an orderly fashion. A few months ago, for example, Donald Trump appeared on the Greta Van Susteren show to explain how a bankruptcy mediated reorganization would be far more beneficial to the auto industry than an attempted "bailout."

Or a Chapter 7 petition can allow you to "cut to the chase," tally up your assets and your debts, sell what you can sell in order to pay whatever debts you can pay, and then move on to rebuilding your good credit -- and in Florida, there are very strong legal protections for your homestead.

In other situations, we may be able to negotiate a resolution with your creditors without a court proceeding. We handle every case on an individual basis.
